Instead of Sunday cleanliness drive in Nagaland will on Saturday

Dimapur: Following opposition from various organisations, the Nagaland government has decided to launch a state-wide cleanliness drive on September 30 (Saturday) instead of the scheduled date of October 1 as the day falls on a Sunday.
In an office memorandum on Wednesday, the state home department said that the concerned deputy commissioners have been designated as nodal officers for planning, taking necessary steps and coordinating with all urban municipal administrators and all block development officers for urban areas. has been done District Officers of Rural Areas and other Departments/Agencies, as required, to ensure successful execution of all activities related to cleanliness drive in the districts as per Government of India instructions.
At the state level, the nodal officer for overall coordination of the entire sanitation drive will be the Commissioner, Nagaland.
Various organizations including Nagaland Baptist Church Council, NSCN (IM), Naga Students Federation (NSF) and Nagaland Theological Colleges Association (NTCA) on Sunday participated in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s nationwide cleanliness drive. The demand was opposed.

Sunday is not just a holiday but a day of worship for Christians, NBCC said.
It added that since October 1 falls on a day of worship for Christians, it would sacrifice another day to “show our support and solidarity with the nation”.
Terming the call for cleanliness drive on Sunday as playing with the religious morals of the Naga people, the NSCN (IM) said Nagas as Christians cannot heed the Prime Minister’s call, no matter how good the cause.
The NSF said that Prime Minister Modi’s call for a mass cleanliness drive on Sunday has raised concerns among Christians in India and beyond.

It said that the call for a nationwide event on Sunday was highly insensitive to the religious sentiments of the Christian community and rightly harmful to the essence of secularism.

NTCA said that scheduling this national event on Sunday inadvertently conflicts with the holy day of millions of Christians across the country.
