Imphal: The Indigenous Tribal Leaders Forum (ITLF) on June 17 condemned Twitter for blocking its media cell Twitter account in India.
Indigneous tribal leaders forum (ITLF) claimed that the account has been an important platform for raising awareness and advocating for the rights of marginalized Kuki-Zo tribal communities.
“Over the past one year, and especially since May 3, 2023, ITLF has been working tirelessly to address the challenges faced by Kuki-Zo tribal communities in Manipur.
ITLF said in an official statement that through dialogue and engagement with the Central and State Governments, including Hon’ble Union Home Minister, Amit Shah, ITLF has been at the forefront of addressing the concerns of Kuki-Zo tribes.
The ITLF alleged that the recent blocking of the ITLF Media Cell Twitter account was an attempt to suppress the already marginalized Kuki-Zo tribal voice.
“This act comes as an addition to the already 40+ days of internet blackouts (minimum restrictions in valley districts) in the hill districts of Manipur, leading to a daily on-ground report by Kuki-zo tribals. The ability to do so is being severely limited and inhibited. incidents,” the tribal forum added.
