‘incomplete’ Tura stadium : ‘Rapid’ inauguration of disturbs Bernard

Tura: Tura BJP MDC in GHADC, Bernard N. Marak, on Thursday accused the MDA government of hastily announcing the inauguration of the incomplete PA Sangma Stadium at Dakopgre in Tura. Even sources close to the Chief Minister said that only the completed portion will be constructed. be inaugurated.

Earlier, in a statement from the government, it was announced that the inauguration will take place on Friday, December 16.

Tura MDC accused the MDA government of taking this step in haste to gain political advantage, saying, “We noticed during the stadium visit that the ground was not complete and iron bars on the right side of the entrance. The beam was bent but apparently straight with additional welding. This is a risk to the public, which contractors should not ignore.”

Barnard added that for the upgradation of the stadium, the BJP government had provided an amount of Rs 2,267 lakh through the Ministry of Minority Affairs, of which the central portion of Rs 2,040.3 lakh has already been released. Marak also questioned why no Union ministers were invited for the programme, while adding that “the substandard work of this project and many others” needed a thorough investigation.

Meanwhile, sources close to Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, while giving details of the inauguration earlier, said that there are parts of the Rs 127.7 crore sports complex project which are yet to be completed, adding that only the completed part (main Ground) will be inaugurated on Friday.

A release issued by the government earlier in the day also stated that the entire complex will see its completion only by the end of 2023.
