In Wokha minor girl badly assaulted, NRSU holds protest

Kohima:An alleged attack on a minor girl in Yanthamo village under Wokha in Nagaland has sparked protests in the district.
Protesters gathered outside the police station in Wokha on Thursday and demanded justice for the minor.
“We want justice”, “We want fair justice” and similar slogans were raised during the protest.
A 9-year-old girl is suspected of being assaulted by her guardian. The suspect has been identified as Rosemary Kikon (39).
A case has been registered with the police under relevant provisions of law.
The incident, which reportedly came to light on Wednesday, led to photos online showing the child with scars on her back, hands and unevenly trimmed hair.

Meanwhile, the Nyiro Range Students’ Union (NRSU) has condemned the “physical abuse and mental harassment” of a minor who is a genuine member of the union.
He termed the act as “barbaric and despicable” and said that such ruthless and insane behavior, targeting a minor girl, was totally intolerable.
Expressing their solidarity, they expressed their displeasure at how the minor was subjected to abuse and torture on the pretext of giving them a better life.
The union thanked the Wokha Child Welfare Committee and the Wokha Police for their swift action and urged the law enforcement agencies to deliver justice and punish the culprit as per law.
