In West Janita Hills ban imposed on foreign made firecrackers
Shillong: In a bid to ensure a safe and pollution-free Diwali, the administration in West Jaiñtia Hills, Meghalaya has prohibited the sale, purchase, and procurement of foreign-made firecrackers.
According to an order issued under Section 163 BNNS, only licensed traders will be permitted to sell firecrackers that comply with Central Pollution Board guidelines.
The sale of firecrackers exceeding 125 decibels is strictly prohibited.
Additionally, bursting crackers are banned within 100 meters of sensitive areas, including hospitals, educational institutions, courts, and religious places declared silent zones.
To balance the festive spirit with public safety, the district administration said it has designated specific timing for bursting sparklers on Diwali.
Bursting of sparklers will be permitted from 8 pm to 10 pm, the administration said.
