Shillong: In a tragic incident, four members of the same family lost their lives in a landslide that hit their house in Panthoor Langti village of West Jaintia Hills district on Sunday morning.
According to reports, the accident occurred due to heavy rains, as a result of which a landslide buried their house and four members of the family lost their lives.
The deceased have been identified as Biangki Phawa, 29 (father), Pynjanai Rynkhlem (mother), 5-year-old Evadaroi Ryngkhlem (son, who was in nursery school) and 3-year-old Evadaroi Ryngkhlem.
A relative of Pynjanai said the incident must have happened at night, but the neighbors found out about 5 am. Despite their efforts, along with other residents, to remove the debris and rescue the family, they were tragically unable to save them, only managing to retrieve four lifeless bodies.
Deeply saddened, family members expressed that Biangki, the father, was a hard worker who earned his living as a daily wage laborer, and his wife worked alongside him. He added that his young son would also help him after school.
