Imphal: Two women overground workers (OGWs) of banned outfit Manipur Naga People’s Front (MNPF) were arrested on Thursday for their alleged involvement in the bomb blast in Manipur’s Ukhrul, police said.
A police official said that five mobile handsets and several incriminating items were recovered from them.
Both were arrested in a joint operation in Manipur’s Imphal East district, a senior police officer said.
Based on the input received from the Assam Rifles, a team of Manipur Police led by Ukhrul SP Ningshem Vashum raided a hideout in the Yaingangpoki Bazar area, the officer said.
During the search operation, the two women were identified as Jorah Jajo, 42, and Leisa Jajo, both residents of Nongdam (T) village Nongdam Lamlong Ukhrul, Manipur, the IPS officer said.
On further verification, the detainees said that he worked as OGW of MNPF, one Ruichumhao Jayo, 49, Finance Secretary of MNPF, who is also husband of Jora Jaju and father of Leisa Jajo (two detainees). , was an officer.
Further, Jorah Jajo revealed that Ruichumhao Jayo used to demand and collect money from traders and government officials in Ukhrul district using her account and that of her daughter (Leisa Jajo) G.
At least five people, all non-locals, were injured in a bomb blast in Manipur’s Ukhrul district on Monday.
