Tura: A’chik Conscious Holistic Integrated Krima (ACHIK) organized a meeting with a sit-in demonstration in front of the Money Secretariat in Dakopgre in Tura to launch a strong demand for the establishment of a winter capital in Tura.
The event was attended by common people from different walks of life and top leaders representing various NGOs. HEM Director Reverend I. C Marak opened the meeting with a brief exhortation and blessed the program with the word of God.
Addressing the gathering, ACHIK Karima Council President Thomas M. Marak informed the audience that despite the long-standing policy desire to have a winter capital or a second capital at Tora since the inception of the Meghalaya state, it remained an unfulfilled dream of the past 51 years.

Macklawrence M. Sangma emphasized that although several NGOs in the Garo Hills had expressed their concerns and submitted memorandums on the issue, this was the first time. That such a demand is being made at such a level. integrated style.
PK Sangma, former GSU leader and ex-CEM of GHADC also expressed his support for the cause, stressing that setting up the winter capital at Tora was an aspiration of the Garo people. It was a valid claim. He said that the statehood of Meghalaya is incomplete without fulfilling this wish.
Elaborating further on the technicalities of the winter capital, ACHIK Karima Council General Secretary Bernita R. Marak explained that once established, the winter capital in Tura would serve for a period of time between the legislative, executive and judicial branches. will serve as the capital for six months.
Laben Ch Marak, former MCS and MPS, allayed fears that the protest program for the winter capital could divert attention from the reservation roster issue.
He assured that ACHIK is committed to advocating for both the reservation roster and the winter capital, as these are the fundamental rights of the A’chik people, and the organization will not settle for anything less.
During the meeting, it was decided to organize awareness programs in the coming days in every district and block of Garo Hills to sensitize the public about the importance of setting up the winter capital at Tura.
