Kohima: The Chang Wedoshi Setshang (Chang Students’ Conference) on Saturday called off their protest in Tuensang after a written assurance from Nagaland Higher Education Minister Temjen Imna Along.
Chang said a consultative meeting was held with the state government on Friday.
A written assurance was obtained on Saturday after the meeting, the student body said.
As mentioned earlier, the first phase of their agitation began on 12 October when the student body shut down Sao Chang (Government) College.
Students are demanding the appointment of a principal in the college. According to the students, the principal’s absence has created “untold difficulties” in the functioning of the college.
In this regard, CWS said that a principal has been appointed on Friday.
Another demand of the students is to increase the number of college buses. The students were assured that the state government would resolve the issue by the end of November.
Students are also demanding more teachers in the college for both the streams. On this demand, the government assured that the issue will be resolved in the current financial year.
Students were also assured that major subjects would be introduced under science stream in the next academic year. The government also assured that teachers will be posted in departments where there is shortage of teachers.
