Tripura Sundari Temple is a unique holy place to visit in Tripura which attracts lakhs of tourists every year.

According to legends found in Hindu scriptures, this Shakti Peeth in the town of Udaipur is the holy place where Goddess Sati’s right foot fell.

This temple was built in 1501 by Maharaj Dhanya Manikya.
It is believed that the king had a dream one night in which the goddess Tripura Sundari instructed him to start his worship at the specific place where the temple is now located.
When the king found out that the holy place actually housed a temple for Lord Vishnu, he was initially worried but later decided to go ahead with the construction of the Tripura Sundari temple after realizing that only There is only one God who is worshiped in different forms. .
He brought an idol of Mata Tripura Sundari made of cast stone from Chittagong, Bangladesh and installed it in the temple.

The idol which is reddish black in color is 1.57 meters in length and 0.64 meters in width and is installed on a stone plinth.
Popularly known as Matabari Temple, this religious site is also known as Koorma (Turtle) Peeth as the structure of the shrine resembles that of a tortoise, with a roof shaped like the reptile’s back.

The temple is a small, square building, measuring only 24 square feet at the base by 75 feet in height containing a square-type tomb with a conical dome of the typical Bengali hut.
Above the temple are seven pots or pitchers with a flag.

People of different religions visit the temple daily to worship Goddess Tripura Sundari.

One of the main attractions of the temple is the beautiful lake known as Kalyan Sagar which is spread over an area of ​​6.4 acres.
This pristine water body, which is 224 yards long and 160 yards wide, is a haven for a variety of aquatic species.

According to the Ghazinama (a biography of the 18th-century ruler Shamsher Ghazi), Ghazi himself offered prayers at the temple after conquering Udaipur in Tripura.

It is now customary for the Muslim people of Udaipur to offer the first harvest and milk to the goddess.
The Tripura Sundari Temple is currently managed by the Mata Tripura Sundari Temple Trust which includes ministers and officers of the Tripura Government.

The temple is worshiped twice daily and Annabhog prasad can be visited by booking coupons of Rs. 50/- in advance. Aarti is performed every morning and evening.
