Agartala: In the last 24 hours, contraband worth lakhs of rupees was seized and six people were arrested in Tripura.
According to a press release of Assam Rifles, Radhanagar Battalion of Agartala Sector Assam Rifles in a joint operation with Tripura Police under the auspices of HQ IGAR(E) arrested three persons with Grade-1 heroin in Kailashahar under Unakoti district.
“Based on a confirmed tip of drug sale, Radhanagar Battalion of Assam Rifles launched a joint operation with police representatives of Kailashahar Police Station in which three persons were arrested with 98 grams of Grade-1 heroin. Price is around Rs 40 Lakhs Kailashahar.
“The arrested persons along with the seized material have been handed over to Kailashahar Police Station for further investigation and legal action,” the press release added.
Later, Tripura police on Monday arrested three drug peddlers and seized contraband from Masterpara area of Agartala city.
On Monday, acting on a tip-off, the police raided the house of Biswajit Chakraborty in Masterpara area of Agartala, President Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Ajay Kumar Das said.
“During the raid, the police seized 1,937 bottles of illegal cough syrup.
During the raid, Biswajit Chakraborty’s son Abhijit Chakraborty was arrested.
“However, the police also successfully nabbed Biswajit Chakraborty and another smuggler identified as Titu Sarma when they were trying to escape,” the police said.
He also said that in the case of the recovery of large quantities of banned cough syrup in the city, the police are making all-out efforts to arrest the main culprit.
