Agartala: A minor was allegedly gang-raped and thrown out of a moving car in South Tripura, police said on Friday.
21-year-old Suhel Miah has been detained by the police in Tripura’s Gomati district for his alleged involvement in the case.
The 17-year-old victim allegedly befriended Suhel on Facebook and was raped by him and two of his accomplices at Tepania Eco Park on Wednesday. While the main accused was arrested from his house in Purba Gokulpur, two others allegedly involved in the crime are still absconding.
“The main accused forced the girl to meet him at Tepania Eco Park where he took some pictures of her despite her objection. When the girl realized that she was being blackmailed, she fled the scene. tried to escape but could not,” said Udaipur Sub-Divisional Magistrate Nirupam Dutta.
Soon after the incident, Hindu Jagran Mancha workers protested and demanded immediate arrest of the accused.
Speaking on the matter, the victim’s grandfather said, “My granddaughter was lured by a group of Muslim youths. Initially the accused hid his identity and told her that he was a Hindu. They were going to meet her at Tepania Eco Park. When he learned his true identity, he tried to return but he and two of his accomplices threatened and assaulted him.
The victim was left on the road near Rajarbag Motor Stand. A specific FIR was registered at R K Pur Women Police Station on Thursday after the victim returned home and narrated her ordeal to her family.
