
In Tripura husband hacks off wife's head body found in Haora river
AGARTALA: In a gruesome incident in Tripura’s Agartala city, a man allegedly killed his wife, beheaded her and dumped the body on the banks of Haora river, police said on Friday.
Police recovered the mutilated body of the woman from the river bank after a day-long search operation on Friday.
The deceased woman, identified as Tanuja Begum, was allegedly murdered by her husband Kayum Mia at their residence located in Aralia area of โโAgartala city on Thursday.
The accused threw his wife’s severed body parts in a swampy area near Haora river. The police started an immediate search operation on the complaint of the woman’s parents.
According to the complaint, she was missing since Thursday evening. Speaking on the matter, SP West Tripura Kiran Kumar said that the police started investigating the case from his residence.
Kumar said that during the search of the deceased’s husband’s room, some blood stains were found and after forensic examination, the police confirmed that the samples collected from the crime scene were of human blood.
Later, the accused husband was detained and interrogated for hours. After hours of interrogation, he confessed to his crime and shared the spot where the body parts were dumped, the SP said.
After killing his wife, the accused beheaded the body and stuffed it in two bags. The two bags were taken to an isolated area and buried. With the help of the dog squad and the confession of the accused, we recovered the body and sent it for post-mortem. Kiran Kumar said that the post-mortem report could reveal the cause of death.
When contacted, SDPO Sadar Ashish Dasgupta said, โThe deceased was a minor and prima facie it appears to be a result of domestic violence. We are told by locals that the couple was not happy with their married life. The accused will be produced in court on Saturday.
