Guwahati: Sumi Borah and her husband, Tarkik Borah both wanted in connection with an online trading scam surrendered before the police in Dibrugarh, Assam.
According to sources, the duo was accused of having involved with Vishal Phukan in a stock trading scam violating SEBI norms and transacting huge amount of unaudited money.
While Vishal Phukan was arrested last week, Sumi Borah and her husband were on the run for over a week.
They were declared most wanted by the police and were suspected of planning to leave the country.
However, on Thursday it was found that contrary to reports, they were not anywhere outside Assam.
It was claimed that they were infact, hiding in Jorhat’s Teok.
Sources indicate that the arrest was made following a directive from IGP Partha Sarathi Mahanta. The couple is currently being interrogated by the Special Task Force (STF) of Assam Police.
However, the police have not released much details about their surrender.
Assam DGP GP Singh in a social media post announced their surrender.
He wrote, “The game is up for them. Compliments to the Team STF.”
