In Torbung three kuki militants killed in intense firing with forces

Bishnupur: Three suspected Kuki militants have reportedly been killed and one injured in a fierce exchange of gunfire between security forces, village volunteers and Kuki militants in Torbung area under the jurisdiction of Phougakchao Ikhai police station in Bishnupur district.
Sources said the exchange of fire that started late on Saturday continued till Sunday morning.
According to sources, a woman was also shot in the stomach by Kuki militants’ bullets around 4 am on Sunday and is being treated at Raj Medical Center in Imphal.
The injured has been identified as 24-year-old Seinaz, wife of an MD Graffer of Kwakta Ward No.1.
A bulletproof vehicle of the Assam Rifles stationed near the Kuki militants’ area was also destroyed by a bomb blast by the Kuki militants. Sources said that some AR personnel may also be injured in the incident.
Kuki militants set fire to a school in Torbung within their area after vacating the school around 6 pm on Saturday, the source said, adding that the militants fired at BSF men and women of the 10th battalion when they tried to approach the school.
The BSF personnel retaliated to the attack while 16 Kumaon Regiment also reached the area to assist the BSF. Sources said that later around 9 pm village volunteers also joined the firing.
Sources said that some women accompanying the Kuki militants from Kangvai side shouted over the mike to stop firing from both sides but the call went in vain and the gunfight turned bloody in which three Kuki militants were reportedly killed.
Sources said that there was a sudden silence on the part of Kuki and after a few minutes an ambulance reached the spot and as the ambulance left, they resumed the attack.
Kuki militants continued their attack at about 1:30 a.m. on Sunday morning by firing 10 mortar shells at Phougakchao Ikhai Awang Leikai Ward No. 9, where three of them failed to explode, he said.
At around 2:00 am on Sunday, the militants again fired at the 16 Kumaon Regiment stationed at Torbung Sabal Leikai using RPG-3. They continued to fire mortar shells towards the 193 Bn D-Coy CRPF stationed at Torbung around 4 am on Sunday.
