In Tinsukia on NH-37 a Leopard rescued by Forest department
Domdooma: Forest department officials on Sunday rescued an injured adult leopard from Khobong Tea Estate near Talap Forest Range Office in Tinsukia district.
According to officials, the leopard was found lying in the middle of a tea garden after being hit by an unidentified vehicle while crossing the NH-37 road last night. “Tea garden workers found the injured leopard in the morning and informed the forest department,” an official said.
Forest staff tranquilized the leopard and sent it to the Wildlife Trust of India’s rescue center in Tinsukia, Guijin, for treatment, the official added.
Shrinking forests in Tinsukia district are a major reason for leopards and other wild animals to migrate to tea plantations or residential areas in search of food. It is important for people to be aware of the impact of their actions on wildlife, and for authorities to take steps to protect these animals and their habitats.
