Tinsukia: In a disturbing incident, a delivery agent of an e-commerce company was allegedly assaulted while on duty in the wetlands of Tinsukia town in Assam.
The victim has been identified as Ankit Dutta, who worked as a delivery boy in an e-commerce company to earn a living for his family.
The incident sparked outrage among local residents and student organizations who have demanded severe punishment for the accused.
Speaking to reporters, Dutta recalled that the incident took place when he had gone to the Allied Tower complex to deliver a parcel. “While I was ringing the doorbell and knocking on the door of the client’s flat, a young man came out of another flat and shouted to disturb me.”
Dutta stated that the alleged assault took place when he came out of the building and sat on his two-wheeler. “Suddenly the person came from behind and probably smashed my head with a bamboo or thick wood and I started bleeding,” he detailed.
“I informed my partner who came and took me for treatment,” he added.
Accusing the police of not registering an FIR initially, Dutta said the police registered a case when a few of his acquaintances accompanied him to the police station.
According to police sources, based on the complaint, a team of Tinsukia Police visited the accident site and started investigation.
“The accused has been identified as Gaurav Dhanuka who was absconding before he was arrested from Guijan belt on the outskirts of the city,” the source added.
Sources said that a case has been registered and investigation is on. Attempts to speak to Tinsukia police were unsuccessful.
