In Tinsukia a man chopped his daughter-in-law hand, faces police

Tinsukia: In a shocking incident, a man on Sunday allegedly attacked his daughter-in-law by cutting off her hand and surrendered in front of a police station in Assam’s Tinsukia district.

The victim, identified as Sangeeta Kumari, was rushed to Tinsukia Civil Hospital by locals who gathered at the spot on hearing the screams.
According to sources, her condition is critical and he has been referred to Assam Medical College and Hospital in Dibrugarh.
“I was packing my belongings in the rented room when I heard someone calling for help. As I came out of the room, I saw Harinder Prasad (accused) walking out of the compound armed with a sheet. I went inside the house and saw his daughter-in-law lying in a pool of blood near the tube well,” said Sahani, one of the tenants of Harinder’s house.
“The victim’s husband asked me to help her out after which they both picked her up and took her near the gate of the compound,” Sahani said.
Rajiv Agarwal, one of the neighbors who gathered at the spot soon after the incident, said that he received a call from the victim’s husband, Rajat Prasad, that his father had attacked his wife with a knife.
“When I reached his house, I saw the victim lying on the ground with blood spots all over her. I immediately called the ambulance service. When the ambulance did not arrive in time, we rushed her to the Civil Hospital in a neighbor’s car. Taken away,” Agarwal added.
Another neighbor Prerna Karnani said that Sangeeta was badly injured as both her hands were almost cut off. It appears that the accused stabbed her on the head and stomach with a sharp object.
Tinsukia police officer-in-charge Parg Jyoti Buragohain said, “The accused surrendered before the Tinsukia police and handed over the weapon used in the attack. We have arrested him and he is being charged with attempted murder.
Buragohain said that a day before the incident, the accused had complained to the Tinsukia police that his son and daughter-in-law were not allowing him to install the CCTV camera. He said that they quarreled over the installation of CCTV cameras.

Meanwhile, Tinsukia police have registered a case and investigation is on.
