Imphal: In a significant operation, three active freedom fighters of the proscribed Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP-Apunba City Meitei) were arrested in Thoubal district of Manipur, along with a cache of arms and ammunition.
The individuals were involved in extensive extortion activities in the southern regions of Manipur over the past few weeks.
The operation was carried out by a joint team of Manipur police commandos (CDOs) and troopers of Assam Rifles.
The arrested freedom fighters have been identified as: Louriyam Suresh Singh (28) from Imphal East district, Lairenlakpam Dineshchandra Singh (30) from Thoubal district and Konsam Anao Singh (26) from Imphal West district of Manipur.
During the arrest, authorities recovered:
- Three pistols
- Three magazines
- 16 rounds of ammunition
- Four mobile phones
- A Mahindra Bolero car without registration
The arrested individuals and the seized items have been handed over to Lilong police station in Manipur.
A case has been registered under relevant sections of the law, as confirmed by the reports.
