Aizwal: In a meeting on June 12, the NGO Coordination Committee agreed to organize a solidarity rally in support of tribals in Manipur.
According to the NGO Coordination Committee, a solidarity rally will be held on Friday 23 June 2023 outside the Governor’s residence “Raj Bhavan”. They call upon all Mizos to support this cause.
The Coordination Committee is a joint committee of top NGOs like – Central Young Mizo Association, Mizoram Appa Pawl, Mizo Hmeichhe Insuihkhawm Pawl, Mizo Zirlai Pawl and Mizo Students Union.
Meanwhile, the number of internally displaced persons (IDPs) seeking refuge in various districts of Mizoram from violence-hit Manipur has crossed 10,000 following the ongoing clashes between the two communities.
According to an official statement, on 3 May 2023, clashes broke out between non-tribal Meiteis people and tribal groups in Manipur, leading to an influx of tribal people seeking safety in Mizoram.
The continuous influx of tribal people from Manipur has increased the number of IDPs in ten districts of Mizoram.
Kolasib district currently has the highest number of IDPs, with 3,608, followed by Aizawl district with 3,535 and Saithual district with 2,445.
According to the latest update of the state information department on June 8, the number of IDPs in other districts is 240 in Champhai, 109 in Mamit, 79 in Khawzawl, 63 in Lunglei, 54 in Serchhip, 11 in Saiha, and an additional The number is In Hnathlial district, the total number rose to 10,152.
