Manipur: In a tense and escalating situation, a heavy exchange of fire took place between the militants of Arambai Tenggol and the 37 column of Assam Rifles in Manipur, as confirmed by sources.
The clashes, involving the surrendering Valley Based Insurgent Groups (VBIG) militants, have put the region on high alert.
The incident took place at Serou in Sugnu, Manipur on May 28 at around 5:30 pm.
The surrendered VBIG militants have now joined the forces under the banner of Arambai Tenggol. What was once supposed to be a peaceful transition has turned violent as the militants, reportedly armed with weapons supplied by the state-run Methi Commandos, engaged in a clash with the 37 Assam Rifles.
According to reports, the surrender of over 500 militants last year was seen as a step towards peace and integration into non-SoO (suspension of operations) groups.
However, to the surprise of many, a significant portion of these surrendered militants later joined the ranks of Arambai Tenggol, leading to the current clash against the security forces.
Further updates are awaited on the ongoing encounter between Arambai Tenggol militants and 37 Assam Rifles.
