In Subansiri CM Pema Khandu initiates Donyi Polo prayer center

Daporijo: Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu on Monday inaugurated Donyi Polo Khumko Naam (Prayer Centre) at Kuporijo in Upper Subansiri district.
Minister of Tourism Nakap Nalo, MLAs Rode Bui, Nyato Dukam and Tanya Soki, members of Tagin Welfare Society, Nyishi Elite Society and Galo Welfare Society and Donyi Polo devotees were among the attendees.
Speaking on the occasion, Khandu urged everyone to maintain a deep connection with their local culture.

He said that while development is an integral part of life, it is important that the indigenous people of the state never forget their roots and cherish their rich culture and tradition.
Khandu also emphasized that local languages ​​should be popularly spoken in the society so that every young child can learn it naturally.

He said that our language and culture gives us our identity.
Khandu further recognized the importance of ‘Nyibus’ (shamans) in maintaining the culture and traditions of the Tani tribes and thanked them on behalf of the people of the state.
He appealed to all to always hold the Nyibus in the highest regard as all cultural traditions and festivals revolve around them.

He said that without them none of our local rituals would be complete.
Khandu reiterated his advice to dedicate a shrine in one’s home to foster spiritual connection with the Supreme Power and gave the example of the Monpa tribe to which he belonged. He said that whether rich or poor, every Monpa family has a house of worship. He said that the sense of peace and justice prevails.
“The government is doing everything possible to preserve our local culture and traditions but it all depends on the local communities and their determination to protect themselves,” Khandu said.
Khandu also appealed to people not to make comparisons between different religions and beliefs but to treat each religion with respect.
“We are who we are and we should be proud of who we are,” he added.

Khandu, meanwhile, witnessed the elaborate rituals performed by Nyibu to pray to Donyi Polo for everyone’s well-being, good health and long life.
