In squash mixed doubles India wins gold medal defeating Malaysia
The Indian pair of Dipika Pallikal and Harinder Pal Singh Sandhu added another gold medal to India’s kitty by defeating Malaysia in the squash mixed doubles final.
India has so far won 83 medals in the 19th Asian Games held in Hangzhou, China. It consists of 32 bronze, 31 silver and 20 gold.
After a slow start to the match, Jyothi Surekha Vennam, Aditi Swami, and Praneet Kaur held a slim lead of two points until their fifth-seeded opponent Cheng Hung Ting, Wong Yuk Sheun, tied 57-57 in the second end and Luk Yin Yi.
However, the Indian team quickly regained their composure and by the end of the third end, their lead had reached eight points while losing just one point.
In the final end, Hong Kong’s performance continued to decline, with one of their arrows hitting red (8). India sealed victory with an arrow, 17-year-old Aditi scoring an impressive 10 in her final shot.
In the closing moments of the match, Jyoti’s last arrow scored a nine, but it had little effect as India cruised to a resounding 11-point win.
