Sonapur: Protests against the delimitation draft resumed in Assam’s Sonapur early Monday July 3, with protesters taking to the streets with banners and slogans.
Members of several ethnic community organizations participated in the demonstration. The protestors marched up to Tetelia Junction to obstruct the rail passage.
Meanwhile, police personnel tried to maintain control over the scene and disperse the protesters.
The protesters, however, said they would never accept reservation for Scheduled Castes (SC).
It may be noted that in the draft delimitation document released on June 20, the EC has proposed to keep the number of assembly seats in Assam at 126 and the number of Lok Sabha constituencies at 14.
The panel also plans to change the geographical boundaries of the majority Assembly and Lok Sabha constituencies, while removing some seats and adding some new ones.
