In some areas of Manipur unrest and tension continues

Manipur: Despite the measures taken by the authorities to control the law and order situation, tension continues in some areas of Manipur. Manipur Government Adviser (Security) Kuldeip Singh addressed the media at a press conference held at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat and said that some untoward incidents have taken place since yesterday.
On May 13, a group of unidentified gunmen opened fire on joint forces of the Assam Rifles and the Army while patrolling the Dominion area at Lailampt under Churachandpur district. During the encounter, two soldiers were injured and shifted to the hospital for treatment.
Also, a dead body was found in the Imphal Valley last night, and more than 10 houses were burnt in Bishnupur district and the adjoining village of Torbung Bangla in Churachandpur district. After the incident, two BSF companies were deployed to monitor the situation. Three more BSF companies were dispatched this morning.
Singh said that inspection is still going on at the camp designated as Suspension of Operation (SOO). There is a growing presence of SOO cadre in their camp, but this is yet to be confirmed.

He also said that five tipper trucks were intercepted by miscreants in a village under Sapermeina police station under Kangpokpi district today. Two of them were burnt to ashes and three vehicles reached Imphal safely.
CRPF Assistant Commandant Daneil Hamar has been booked for allegedly misbehaving with a local resident in Imphal. An inquiry has been initiated, punishment will be given based on the inquiry report.
Singh said that the curfew has been relaxed at three different times. Tengnoupal, Chandel, and Kangpokpi districts are picked up from 6 a.m. to 1 p.m. Curfew has been relaxed from 5 am to 12 pm in all the five districts of the valley namely Imphal West, Imphal East, Thoubal, Bishnupur and Kakching. Curfew in Jerry Baum is 5 am to 3 pm. There is no relaxation of curfew in Churachandpur and Pherzawal districts. He added that while the curfew has been completely lifted in Tamenglong, Senapati, Ukhrul, Kamjong and Noney.
Singh said the total number of deaths since the start of the violence is 73, of which 41 are violence-related deaths. Out of 73 cases, 25 cases are from Imphal West district, 13 from Imphal East district, 18 from Churachandpur district, 8 from Bishnupur district, 5 from Kangpokpi, 2 from Tengnopul and 2 from Thoubal district. 243 people have been injured due to the current crisis.
385 FIRs were registered and 30% of them were registered. 456 weapons recovered, and 1809 arsons. A total of 26,358 are taking shelter in 178 different relief camps. So far 3124 people from outside the state have been taken to the airport to go to their hometowns, he added.
