Shillong: In a recent political development in Meghalaya, the Voice of the People’s Party (VPP) has refused to support the Congress candidate from Sohiong, despite being approached twice for help.
VPP President Ardent Miller Basaiawmoit addressed a gathering in Mawkyrwat and said that the people of Sohiong are eager for a VPP representative.
Despite failing to find a suitable candidate in Sohiong who met the party’s eligibility criteria, Basaiawmoit expressed confidence that the VPP would have succeeded had it fielded a candidate from the constituency.
He added that party supporters questioned why “Prah” (a title for respected leaders in the Khasi language) did not come to Sohiong.
The VPP chief’s statement has sparked political speculation about the party’s future strategies and possible alliances.
