A hostel warden in Arunachal Pradesh’s Shiyomi district sexually assaulted 21 children between the ages of 6 and 14, SIT Superintendent Rohit Rajbir Singh said on July 19.
The SP held a press conference at the Itanagar police headquarters on the eight-month-old molestation case that took place at a government residential school in Shiyomi district of Arunachal.
The accused has been identified as 33-year-old Yomken Bagra.
“In November 2022, this case was registered in Monigaon of Shiyomi district regarding sexual exploitation of children. Earlier there was a complaint that the warden of the hostel sexually assaulted two twin sisters inside the hostel. Initially, the complaint was reported on November 1, 2022.
A case was registered in Tato, the headquarters town of Shiyomi district, where the initial investigation took place. Later, the case was transferred to a Special Investigation Team (SIT) team headed by Deputy SP Muir Basar Kamdak, the SP said during a press conference.
Singh also said that the accused was a hostel warden of a school in Monigaon. He worked there as a warden from 2014 to 2022. There may be more victims of his assault, but a thorough investigation by the two sisters who filed the complaint has now revealed 21 victims, ranging in age from 6 to 14 years, male and female. There were women.
At the time of molestation, the affected girls were in first and fifth grade. However, now they have grown up and settled down. We could have filed a charge sheet on the basis of the complaint based on the statement of the sisters and charged the arrested accused but our aim was to bring justice to all the victims and find more victims who are silent and not coming forward. are,” Singh said.
The SP urged the victims to come forward and assured that the police would keep their identities confidential and said, “We want justice for all the victims of this heinous crime.
Out of these 21 victims, 6 children were subjected to escalating sexual assaults. Other students were subjected to sexual abuse by this accused in different ways.
The SP said that the accused also showed him obscene clips and the police recovered the obscene videos from the phones of the accused.
“We are sure that this accused has assaulted many more children in this long period of 8 years as we have received complaints from students of 2019 to 2022 batch only. The accused was arrested after a lot of hiding and even one of his accomplices, O Pertin, who helped him hide, was also arrested under the act of harboring a criminal,” said Singh.
He further said that a charge sheet has been filed against him under Section 376 AB, POCSO Act.
Currently, the accused is on bail. We hope the court will hear the case soon. He said that these crimes were happening for the last six years.
