Shillong: Excitement is high as the Megha Kayak Festival kicks off on October 12 at the Shillong White Water Village in Umtham in Meghalaya.
This marks the sixth edition of the festival, which features the thrill of kayaking and the breath-taking beauty of Meghalaya’s Umtrew River.
The Megha Kayak Festival promises to test the skills and courage of kayakers as they navigate the amazing river with its twists and turns and create unforgettable moments.
Organized by Ri Bhoi Water Sports and Tourism Corporation Society Limited and proudly sponsored by the Department of Sports and Youth Affairs, Meghalaya, this year’s festival also partnered with the Indian Kayaking and Canoeing Association (IKCA) is to make it more remarkable.
The festival offers exciting events for men and women of different ages and skills in different categories under two formats – Down River Sprint and Canoe Slalom Cross.
Athletes participating in the intermediate category should register on October 11 and the general registration desk at Shillong Whitewater Village will be open on October 12 from 1 pm onwards.
The Megha Kayak Festival aspires to be the largest festival of its kind in the Indian subcontinent, with significant representation from India and Nepal. Over the years, this grand event has promoted adventure tourism and positioned Meghalaya as a premier water sports destination globally.
