Guwahati: AIUDF MLA Nijam Uddin Choudhury surrendered before a local court in South Assam’s Hailakandi district on Saturday in a rape case.
However, the court of Hailakandi District and Sessions Judge granted bail to Chaudhary.
The Hailakandi district and sessions judge’s court on Friday issued an arrest warrant against the AIUDF MLA.
In 2018, a case of rape was registered by a woman, in which Choudhary, an AIUDF MLA from Algapur, is a co-accused.
Public prosecutor Manika Roy said the court accepted his bail plea.
AIUDF legislator Choudhury had failed to appear in court despite repeated summons, leading to the issuance of an arrest warrant.
Choudhary was first elected from Algapur in 2016 and retained the seat in the 2021 assembly elections.
