Shillong: The Meghalaya capital witnessed tense scenes on Thursday evening after six miscreants allegedly attacked two taxi drivers following an altercation in the Police Bazaar area.
Angered by the incident, taxi drivers in the area suspended service on Friday morning and demanded immediate action against those involved. Due to which the traffic movement in the area was also disrupted.
The two drivers, who are yet to be identified, are admitted to Civil Hospital and undergoing treatment.
Meanwhile, tension also erupted in the Punjabi colony of Ïewduh as members of several civil society organizations gathered in the area and demanded the arrest of the accused.
“We have been here since last night after the incident and demand the police to arrest those involved as soon as possible,” said a member of a civil society organisation.
According to civil society groups, the miscreants are allegedly residents of Punjabi Colony.
The police have detained two persons in this case and brought them to Mawlangkhar police station.
