Imphal: The Election Commission of India (ECI) has directed re-polling for six polling stations in three assembly constituencies of two districts, Ukhrul and Senapati for Outer Manipur (ST) parliamentary constituency.
The previous poll held on 26 April 2024 is considered null and void and 30 April 2024 has been designated as the date for fresh poll.
In an official notification, Pradeep Kumar Jha, Chief Electoral Officer, Manipur announced that re-polling will be held at designated polling stations, with voting hours on 30 April 2024 from 7:00 am to 4:00 pm.
The CEO Manipur encourages all eligible voters from these stations to actively participate in the electoral process.
The decision for the repoll is in accordance with Sections 58(2) and 58A(2) of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, as stated in the notification.
Meanwhile, the Congress, the primary opposition party in Manipur, has called for repolls in 17 polling stations, citing extensive booth rigging and violence during the previous election on Friday.
The Outer Manipur PC seat, reserved for scheduled tribes, sees a total of four contenders from INC, NPF, and two independents, all representing the Naga communities.
The affected polling stations are as follows, listed against their respective assembly segments 44 Ukhrul (ST), 44/20-Shangshak A, 44/36-Ukhrul (A), 44/41-Ukhrul (D-1), 44/50-Ukhrul (F), 45-Chingai (ST) 45/14-Chingai , 47-Karong (ST) and 47/33-Oinam (A1).
