Agartala: At least seven women have been arrested by the police in Tripura for possession of ganja.
The seven women were arrested with ganja from an inter-state bus terminal in North Tripura district.
Police said on Tuesday 07 November that the women arrested were using their infants as carriers.
Police found women roaming aimlessly with children at Dharmanagar Interstate Bus Terminus.
“Police took the women and their children to Dharmanagar police station and searched them,” North Tripura district SP Bhanu Pada Chakraborty told PTI.
He added: “During the search, 12 kilograms of contraband hidden in their underwear was recovered.”
It is noteworthy that all the arrested women belong to Bihar.
“Four to five kg ganja was recovered from the person of the children, which has become a new method of smuggling ganja from Tripura,” the SP said.
He added: “However, this was the first time that children aged between six months and one-and-a-half years were used.”
All the arrested women have been booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act and sent to judicial custody.
