In North Lakhimpur four prisoners injured over violent clash in jail

North Lakhimpur: Four prisoners were injured in a brawl inside the district jail of North Lakhimpur.

The incident took place on Monday night when the security personnel inside the jail were alerted by the screams of some inmates after dinner.
Abdul Kalam, a life-sentenced convict, attacked four other prisoners – Abdul Mutalib, Ruhul Amin, Azizur Rahman and Zainal Abedin – with stones that night, injuring them severely.
The four injured were taken to North Lakhimpur Medical College Hospital for treatment.
Abdul Mutalib, whose condition was critical, was later shifted to Assam Medical College Hospital, Dibrugarh for further treatment.
It is learned that Abdul Kalam was sentenced to life imprisonment three months ago in a murder case and had a dispute with his sons over land.
The men he attacked were accused of supporting his estranged sons.
On the other hand, three of the four injured prisoners of the jail were recently put behind bars for their role in attacking a police team conducting an anti-counterfeit gold and currency operation at No. 2 Ahmedpur in Tinithengiya, Bangalmora.
