Tura: At least two people were killed in an elephant attack at Kaldang in North Garo Hills in Meghalaya.
According to the locals, a herd of wild elephants had been roaming in the area for the past few nights.
On Sunday, the same herd was seen crossing between Kaldang border area and Goalpara in Assam.
However, they met a couple who were passing the same way.
The herd, according to locals, may have reported the male and female elephants attacking them.
It is not known how the elephants attacked the couple but they lost their lives in the attack.
Although others tried to save the people, it was too late as the people succumbed to their injuries before any medical help arrived.
It should be noted that elephants use this area as a corridor and are often seen crossing it in search of food and water.
Although most encounters are harmless, some encounters prove fatal as jumbos destroy crops and other food reserves during interactions with human-populated areas.
