
In north district Tripura state Rilfes (TSR) rifleman shoot himself
Agartala: In a tragic incident late on Sunday night, a Tripura State Rifles (TSR) rifleman allegedly shot himself dead with his service rifle in the northern district.
The incident took place at the headquarters of TSR 13 Battalion, located in Daspara area under Subhashnagar, Kanchanpur sub-division of North District.
The deceased has been identified as Sarat Singh, a resident of West Bengal.
According to the sources, irregularities related to the leave of jawans (soldiers) were going on in the battalion headquarters. The Assistant Commandant’s treatment of the men reportedly created discontent among many of them.
The Tripura State Rifles (TSR) rifleman is believed to have taken the extreme step of ending his life due to alleged abuse and torture.
However, the actual circumstances surrounding this tragic death are shrouded in mystery.
As soon as the information was received, the police and forensic team reached the spot. The body of the deceased was shifted to Kanchanpur Hospital Mortuary on Monday morning.
It is currently unclear whether the incident is a suicide or a murder, and the police are unable to give a definitive answer.
Complete details will be revealed only after the post-mortem is completed. The incident has created an uproar in and around the battalion headquarters and calls for a thorough investigation.
