In New Lambulane five houses set on fire as fresh tension escalate
Imphal East: In a fresh twist, some unidentified miscreants allegedly torched five houses in New Lambulane in Manipur’s Imphal East district on August 27.
Locals alleged that miscreants living in New Lambulane must have started the fire as the lane exits are heavily fenced, and several CRPF personnel are stationed there throughout the day.
“Also, there is strict deployment of SSB personnel on the main road at all times. There is no possibility of any community entering such high security areas except the Kuki people living there.
Thus it is very clear that the Kukis started the fire themselves so that it engulfed other neighboring Meitei houses,” said Huidrom Malini, Meira Paibi Secretary of New Checkon Bazar Women’s Association.
People of the nearby areas came out on the streets condemning such suspicious acts of burning houses. However, the police personnel fired some rounds of tear gas and brought the situation under control.
Clashes later broke out between the police and the public as angry protesters alleged that the burning of houses was a plan by miscreants to disturb the peaceful atmosphere of Imphal city.
It may be mentioned that the state government has convened a session of the Manipur Legislative Assembly on August 29.
It should be noted that New Lambulane is a mixed population area. Security forces are deployed round the clock to prevent any untoward incident.
