New Delhi: Braving the sweltering heat in the national capital, New Delhi, hundreds of Meira Paibis under the auspices of the Apunba Meira Paibi Lup (AMPL), Thongju and Khwairamband Ema Keithel Joint Committee for Peace staged a demonstration on Monday over the ongoing dispute of Manipur at Jantar Mantar.
Students and people from different walks of life took part in the protest organized by Meira Paibis, a women’s group in an attempt to draw the central government’s attention to the crisis in Manipur.
Meira Paibis appealed to the central government to stop the policy of “divide and rule” in Manipur and demanded the earliest possible restoration of normalcy in the conflict-hit state.
They pointed out that the current conflict in the state is not between Meitei and Kuki communities, but outside elements using Manipur as their base to push narrow and sectarian political agendas.
Questioning Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s silence on the Manipur crisis, the protesters raised several slogans during the protest such as “Repeal the SoO, no caste-based law in Manipur, no separate administration in Manipur, Save the local people of Manipur, Manipur highway is still closed by kuki militants, why is PM Modi still silent on Manipur issue?
