Dimapur: Seven chargesheets have been filed in criminal cases related to the February assembly elections in Nagaland while investigations are on in 61 other such cases.
Informing this, the Office of the Chief Electoral Officer of Nagaland said that a total of 70 election-related criminal cases were registered in the state during the last assembly elections.
A meeting chaired by Chief Electoral Officer V Shashank Shekhar was held at his office in Kohima on Monday to review the status of all criminal cases registered during the previous Nagaland Legislative Assembly elections.
The main objective of the meeting was not only to review the status of criminal cases related to the election but also to ensure that active follow-up action on such cases continues even after the completion of the election process.
It was discussed that the Election Commission of India also keeps a close watch on any such registered case to ensure follow-up to prevent any future elections and polling related criminal activities. Action should be taken.
All districts shall send regular monthly reports that the report of proceedings of criminal cases registered during the previous elections shall be reviewed by the Office of the Chief Electoral Officer and the Election Commission of India.
