
In Myanmar ULFA (I) leader Lachit Hazarika and Bornali executed
Guwahati: Banned militant outfit United Liberation Front of Assam (Independent) has sentenced two of its senior members to death for anti-organisational activities.
Top leader of ULFA-I, Lachit Hazarika alias Brigadier Salim Asom was sentenced to death on 20 September at Hachi camp in Sagain region of Myanmar.
According to sources, Salim Asom was close to ULFA-I chief Paresh Baruah and had joined the outfit in the 1990s. While Bornali joined this organization in the year 2021.
Notably, in a major operation launched by the Khonsa Battalion of the Assam Rifles in association with the Arunachal Pradesh Police on the afternoon of 1 October 2023, two active ULFA (I) cadres Self Styled Private Nilutpal Asom @ Monjit Gogoi and Self Styled Private Upen Asom. @Rohni Gogoi group nabbed with arms and ammunition in Tirap district.
During interrogation, the two hardline cadres revealed the execution of two senior ULFA-I leaders to the security forces.
