In Moreh tension erupted as 2 commandos attacked by armed mob

Imphal: Armed miscreants attacked two plainclothes commandos near Indo-Myanmar Gate Number Two in Manipur’s Tengnopal district on Wednesday, after Kuki women’s rights groups demanded the removal of commandos from Moreh police station.
The incident took place at around 10 am when the two commandos posted at Moreh police station were trying to buy medical supplies from a pharmacy located in Nepali Busti, a short distance from the police station.
One of the commandos, later identified as Bulu, was injured after falling to the ground. The armed miscreants opened fire on them but the commandos managed to escape and quickly retreated to their police station.

In response to this incident, heavy security forces including Assam Rifles, CRPF, Commandos and BSF launched operations in sensitive areas of Moreh.
The injured commando was given medical aid at Moreh Hospital under the protection of security forces.

According to official sources, in light of the situation, the Tengnoupal district commissioner decided to reduce the curfew period imposed in and around Moreh.
Notably, the Kuki Women’s Union and Human Rights Mora (KWU&HR) held a protest sit-in at the New Moreh playground in Tengnopal district on July 7, in which state police commandos from the border town’s Moreh police station. It was demanded to be removed.
These organizations have accused Manipur police commandos of killing two students in Moreh on May 3.

They also alleged that the presence of communal forces, citing police commandos, is threatening innocent civilians.
