
In Mon district, One NSCN-K freedom fighter killed by Assam Rifles
Kohima: An alleged freedom fighter of the NSCN-K was reportedly killed, and another was captured after an encounter in an area of Nagaland’s Mon district.
According to an official statement from the Ministry of Defense issued on Monday (March 04), the operation resulted in the recovery of a number of arms, ammunition, explosives and war material.
Assam Rifles launched the operation based on specific intelligence about the movement of insurgents planning kidnapping and extortion in the area around Sangsa village in Nagaland’s Mon district, the defense ministry said.
The operation began on the night of 3-4 March 2024.
Upon intercepting the insurgents, Assam Rifles troops came under fire from the group.
In response, the Assam Rifles personnel engaged in a firefight with the insurgents.
Consequently, one insurgent was reported killed, and another was apprehended during the exchange.
Additionally, one automatic rifle, one automatic pistol, grenades, ammunition, and various other war-related items were seized.
Intelligence sources suggest that the freedom fighters belong to the NSCN-K.
