In Mizoram, more than 200 houses, including a church, were damaged by the storm and heavy rains in Kolasib
Heavy rains and flash floods have damaged more than 200 homes, including a church building in the Kolasib district of northern Mizoram, adjoining Assam and the western part of the state’s Mamit district. ۔
However, no casualties were reported in the storm that hit two districts on Saturday evening, an official said.
According to preliminary reports, at least 220 houses and a church building were damaged in Kolasib district and about 18 houses in a village in Mamit district near the Assam border were damaged, the official said.
He said that more than 40 houses were completely destroyed by the storm.
He said that detailed reports are awaited.
He said that about 27 houses in the village were completely damaged.
Meanwhile, MLA of Kolasib Assembly constituency and Minister for Supplies Lalrinliana visited the storm-hit villages on Sunday to take stock of the situation.
The Minister assured the victims of assistance from the government.
On the instructions of Mizoram Chief Minister Zoramathanga, Lalrenliana also said that tin roofs would be provided immediately to families whose roofs have been blown away by violent winds.
