In Meghalaya polls a Daily Wager to contest in Mylliem constituency
Shillong: Keen to bring a change in Meghalaya, 27-year-old Richard Nongbsap a daily wager from Umlyngka Sepngi in East Khasi Hills district has decided to contest from the Mylliem constituency in the 2023 general elections.
Richard earns a daily wage by performing various tasks, such as collecting hay for the cattle, reclaiming waste charcoal with sludge, and collecting scrap.
Accompanied by his loved ones, Nongbsap submitted his nomination papers on Wednesday. He will contest as an independent candidate and has chosen CCTV as his symbol. Nongbsap the daily wager said his reason for contesting the election is to enact a law that will expose corrupt MLAs, reveal how much of their salary they spend and what goes into their pockets. How much money, and the source of the extra money they get.
“I will not tolerate disbursement of MLA money without keeping proper records to prevent corruption,” said Richard.
“My aim is to bring transparency and ensure that the poor get the benefits they need, such as housing schemes for those living below the poverty line,” he added.
