Shillong: Meghalaya Tourism Minister Paul Lyngdoh inaugurated the first International Film Festival here on Tuesday, which will screen 40 films over the next five days at 4 venues.
In his address, Paul said that apart from being known as the abode of clouds, Meghalaya is also the “home of talent and creativity”.
He said that the International Film Festival is a celebration of Meghalaya’s artistes and filmmaking prowess that will enable the state to compete at the national level and beyond.
The tourism minister said the international film festival is a great opportunity to “showcase the state’s unique and rich culture and potential tourism basket”.
He also encouraged the youth to learn and be inspired by the film festival.
Paul also stressed that the government is committed to setting up state-of-the-art cinema halls which will further boost the film industry in the state.
The minister added that the “sparks lit today” would ultimately help Meghalaya become a hub of “talent and creativity”.
The first Meghalaya International Film Festival is being jointly organized by the filmmakers of the state in collaboration with the Tourism Department.
