Imphal: At least one Manipur police commando, “4 suspected Kukis” (according to reliable sources), and 5 civilians were allegedly killed by suspected Kuki militants in an adjoining area early Sunday morning. In another news, Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Sunday said that the government strongly condemns the attacks on unarmed civilians in the peripheral areas of the Valley districts. He said that the government will root out armed terrorists from the state.
Briefing media persons on Sunday, Biren said the fight is between “armed terrorists trying to dismember Manipur and the state government with the help of the Centre”.
The Chief Minister said that the government is also deeply saddened by the deaths on both sides and has assured all possible measures to bring the situation back to normal. He said that the surge in violent attacks on civilian homes in the last one or two days was highly condemnable for being planned and simultaneously showing its prowess, especially when Union Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai is in the state. Group peace missions are being formed as part of efforts to restore peace in the state.
Stating that those trying to break up the state and disrupt peaceful coexistence in the state are enemies of all the 34 communities living together in the state, N Biren Singh said the government would continue to face every such challenge. Biren said that the government will not allow the fragmentation of Manipur, protect the integrity of the state and root out these armed terrorists from the state. He appealed to all the 34 communities of the state to unite to face these challenges and have faith and trust in the government.
The Chief Minister also assured that the government will face every challenge against the territorial integrity of the state, attacks on people’s lives and property. He further assured the public that the state force is well trained and well equipped.
Biren also appealed to the people to support, pray and encourage the commandos, security forces. He clarified that the state force is directly under the state home department and there is no restriction on them from anyone. He continued that after identifying 38 dangerous areas, other unsafe areas have also been identified and the state police are taking action.
