Imphal: An anti-trafficking team, Imphal has arrested two drug peddlers, including a woman, with huge quantities of contraband in two separate operations from Imphal and Thoubal districts.
Acting on a specific tip-off, the team arrested a woman with 78,000 amphetamine tablets from Wahengleikai Bus Parking, Imphal around 9 pm on Saturday.
The seized pills weighing 7.91 kg are estimated to have a market value of Rs 7.8 crore.
He was arrested under the relevant section of the NDPS Act, 1985. The woman has been identified as 50-year-old Lalzarzo, a resident of Tawna Colony in Muolvaiphei of Churchandpur district.
In another case, the same team intercepted a vehicle at Mayai Keithel village in Thoubal district around 4 pm on Friday. During thorough checking, the team recovered 50 boxes loaded with foreign cigarettes from the vehicle.
The driver, identified as Ngaopunii Anthony, hails from Purul Akutpa in Senapati district.
According to the official report, the recovered goods and the vehicle have been seized under the Customs Act, 1962. The total value of seized goods is around Rs 81 lakh.
The person has been arrested under the relevant section of the Customs Act, 1962. It said further investigation of the cases is underway.
