In Manipur IAF will use bomb to destroy Poppy fields, COCOMI

Imphal: The Center will deploy Indian Air Force (IAF) fighter jets to bomb and destroy poppy fields in Manipur.

This was stated by the Coordination Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI), TOI reported.
According to the report, COCOMI – an Imphal-based umbrella organization of various Meitei groups in Manipur – said that Defense Minister Rajnath Singh had assured this.

COCOMI said Defense Minister Rajnath Singh has assured that the IAF will deploy its fighter jets if the Manipur government approaches the Center to bomb poppy fields.
COCOMI said “urgent attention was requested from the defense minister”, TOI reported.
“They were also requested to destroy poppies by IAF planes. The defense minister assured that this would be done if the Manipur government approaches the central government,” COCOMI said in the report.
It added that representatives of the Delhi Metropolitan Coordinating Committee (DMCC) recently met Rajnath Singh and apprised him of the “threat to national security posed by Kuki narco-terrorists”.
