Agartala: Chief Electoral Officer, Tripura, Kiran Gitte said the poll-bound state has recorded the highest increase in total voters turnout in the last five years, indicating that people are becoming more aware of the electoral process. have been.

Addressing a press conference at the Civil Secretariat here, Gitte said, “In the last five years, 2.40 lakh new voters have been registered in the voter lists which is an overall increase of 9% in the electorate. They include 80,000 new voters who have been added to the electoral rolls during the traditional special summary revision before the assembly elections.This is an increase of 2.91% in the state’s eligible voter.
The senior official also highlighted the elaborate pre-election security arrangements and special campaigns launched to curb violence and increase voter turnout.

In 2018, the total number of voters was 25,73,000 which has now increased to 28,14,478. The total increase is 2,40,000. During the special summary revision, 79,587 voters have been included in the electoral rolls,” Gitte added.
According to Gitte, the electoral rolls have been published after a transparent process that includes hearings at the SDM and DCM levels, door-to-door data collection and deletion of duplicate voters.

“More than 13,000 similar entries were detected using special AI tools developed by the Election Commission of India. These entries were called for re-hearing and appropriate action was taken thereafter. The issues were resolved. “However, the ECI has kept its door open for new registrations. We will continue to register new voters till the last date of submission of nominations,” the CEO told media persons.
According to a press handout shared by the CEO’s office, a total of 65,044 out of 79,587 voters are between the ages of 18 and 19. Of these voters, 34,704 are male and 30,328 are female. Overall, female voter registration outnumbered the total number of newly registered male voters by 10,766.

About 3,661 new voters belong to the disabled category, taking the total number of PwD voters to 17,297. The number of voters above 80 years is 38,039. The number of over 100 voters is 679 and the average number of voters per polling station is 845.
