North Lakhimpur: In ongoing clashes along the inter-state border between Assam and Arunachal Pradesh in Lakhimpur, people from across the border have been accused of attacking the Assam Forest Department marked pillars boundary at Methun Chapori in Ranga Reserve Forest of Lakhimpur district.
According to an Assam forest official, people from Arunachal Pradesh pulled out the concrete pillars installed by the Lakhimpur forest department for plantation under the Compensatory Afforestation Fund Management and Planning Authority (CAMPA) scheme.
About four hundred pillars were reportedly uprooted in this incident.
This was ahead of a visit by the Circle Officer of Kimin in Arunachal Pradesh’s Papum Pare district on Friday who asked Lakhimpur forest officials to stop campa work there.
People of Belo village in Arunachal Pradesh alleged that people from Assam entered their area and encroached on their land by erecting concrete pillars in a five-km area.
This was the third such clash on the Assam-Arunachal inter-state border after the signing of the MoU on border settlement between the Chief Ministers of the two states in New Delhi on April 21.
