In Kwakta heavy exchange fire, vandalism of govt property ongoing

Imphal: Amid the ongoing violence in Manipur, there were reports of a heavy exchange of fire between security personnel and miscreants in Kwakta and Kangvai areas of the state on June 16, sources claimed.
Sources reported that by 9.15 pm on June 16, a few miscreants armed with automatic weapons opened fire and fired around 400-500 rounds. Firing started again at around 9.45 pm.
Sources also reported that a strong mob of about 300 people tried to ransack the residence of BJP (Women) President Sharda Devi at Porampet, Imphal West around midnight, though the army mob managed to disperse and prevent any accidents.
According to sources, incidents of vandalism and arson have also been reported by mobs surrounding the properties of government officials.
Sources claimed that an attempt was made to set fire to the palace compound near the advance hospital where a crowd of about 1,000 people had gathered around 6 pm. The Rapid Action Force tried to disperse the crowd by using tear gas and rubber bullets in which some civilians were reportedly injured.
In addition, there were reports of a mob of 300 people building around Manipur University and attempting to loot the Eringbaum Police Station in Imphal West.

There were reports of an attempt to vandalize the BJP office with 200-300 people gathering around government property, though the army managed to disperse the crowd sources claimed.
